The oven door is about to fall off, just held in place with an octopus strap, a piece of rope or a cast off belt. To bake a meal, the oven needs to be “flat-out” to compensate for the loss of heat as there is no way of tensioning it to seal properly Sound familiar?
Frequently it takes a breakdown such as this to galvanise people into action. The first realisations come when it’s discovered that the new oven is a different size to the old or the new cook-top is a different shape. The renewal of other appliances can create situations of equal magnitude. Once the decision is made to renovate, then comes the real fun. The most important consideration is the kitchen designer. Locate the best kitchen designer who is within your locale. Confirm the they are an accredited Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) and member of the Kitchen and Bathroom Designers Institute (KBDI). Many claim to be top kitchen designers but few are actually qualified. It’s possible to have a kitchen built by the best cabinet maker in your area but if the design is inappropriate, it doesn’t matter who built it, you will never have the best result. Locate a designer who is an accredited CKD and KBDI member and is respected in the industry. This person will then gain a brief from you and ideally will spend at least three hours with you while designing your kitchen. Your designer will also assist with the choices of materials for your doors, bench-tops and splashback. Of course the kitchen needs to be constructed and installed according to regulations and be well built. Five years down the track you’d not be pleased when the bottoms started falling out of the drawers or the hinges started breaking and the doors falling off. Several referrals from friends or associates can be of assistance by informing you of their experiences. Issues to consider are;
Was it completed and in a reasonable time? If modifications of any sort were required were they carried out without fuss or with having to badger the company for completion? Did the company address issues which were a concern for you? Did you have a budget which was adhered to? Was it value for money?
It’s a minefield out there
and it’s easy to fall into a hole, choose your designer well and they will more
than likely have recommended suppliers. I can be that designer and can take care of all your
concerns.
Being an independent kitchen designer, I can "hold your hand" through the whole process, from beginning to end and provide for you the very best result.
